As you know, AAFC, more specifically Jeff Franklin and Dr. Harrison Wright, has performed the last winter’s bud hardiness evaluations in different varieties. The current season, 6 reports have been distributed through GGANS to the growers and now all the seasonal reports will be available on Perennia’s website.
The third session of From Grapes to Wines webinars took place last week with the presentation of Dr. Basile Pauthier from The Comité Champagne. He gave a summary of the research made in Champagne about spring frost fighting techniques following three main axes: efficiency, environmental and economic sustainability. The Council brings together the industry, academic, and provincial and federal government representatives. It was formed by both private and public sector partners to oversee implementation of plant health priorities identified in the Plant and Animal Health Strategy for Canada. The information collected will be used to help identify tools to promote agricultural biosecurity and to guide potential future extension programs.

They talked about how different sources of sugar can modify the wine profile, and whether metal concentrations of sparkling wines can tell us about the origin of the grapes used in the wines.
